Morrill Act Sesquicentennial Celebration: The Future of Public Education10/26/2012 - 10/26/2012 | 8:30am - 3:00pm Illini Union
During the month of October 2012, the Urbana-Champaign campus will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Morrill Act of 1862. This act allocated 10,000 acres of Federal government land to each state to sell, the proceeds from which were used to establish public colleges including the University of Illinois. A symposium celebrating the past successes and changing role of public higher education will take place at the Illini Union in the heart of our campus on Friday October 26, 2012. The symposium will include panel discussions, visual and performing arts presentations, and an exhibition space featuring teaching and research methods and showcasing the accomplishments of university units. Please visit the symposium website for more information and to register.
