The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement is accepting project nominations for the 2010 C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Award, which is sponsored by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU). The goal of the Peter Magrath Community Engagement Award is to recognize the outreach and engagement partnership efforts of four year public universities.
Only two award applications can be submitted from a single institution. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement is requesting a statement (no more than 500 words in length) from interested groups. That statement should describe why their project is likely to compete well in the Magrath Award Competition. The deadline for these project statements is January 25, 2010. Responses will be provided by January 29, 2010.

Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement Grants Awarded
Proposals for Engagement grants were accepted up through November 2, 2009. There were a total of 143 proposals submitted. A list of twenty-six peer reviewers read and evaluated the proposals based on four criteria: 1) likelihood of a positive impact; 2) potential for sustainability of the project; 3) the extent to which the proposal includes a community project; 4) over-all rating. Each proposal was reviewed separately by at least two individuals. The reviewers gave their evaluation scores based on the four criteria. The scores were then averaged and a Short list was developed from this process. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement then made funding decisions based on the criteria and the desire to fund initiatives that reflected the diversity of engagement conducted by the campus. Of the 143 submissions, 30 were awarded grants. The decision was very difficult to make and there were many worthy proposals that did not receive funding.
