The University of Illinois has a strong heritage of public engagement. As a land grant institution the University of Illinois has a long record of commitment to public engagement and to the discovery and application of knowledge to improve and serve the greater society in which we live. Its faculty, staff and students collaborate with external audiences and partners to address the needs and opportunities of society. It is through these partnerships that critical societal issues are embedded into and impact the research and educational missions of the University. The Office of Public Engagement initiates and supports a broad and diverse set of public engagement activities that link the campus to society.
2010 C. Peter Magrath University Community Engagement Award -
Call for Project Nominations
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement is accepting project nominations for the 2010 C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Award, which is sponsored by the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU). The goal of the Peter Magrath Community Engagement Award is to recognize the outreach and engagement partnership efforts of four year public universities.
Only two award applications can be submitted from a single institution. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement is requesting a statement (no more than 500 words in length) from interested groups. That statement should describe why their project is likely to compete well in the Magrath Award Competition. The deadline for these project statements is January 25, 2010. Responses will be provided by January 29, 2010.

OVCPE Recent RFP Awardees
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement recently completed an RFP process for proposals from faculty, students, and staff to fund community-related projects, scholarly work, creative endeavors, course development and other activities within the broad framework of public engagement. CCTF Report
The Civic Commitment Task Force (CCTF), composed of faculty, college and unit senior administrators, and community members were appointed by the Chancellor in 2006. The CCTF served as a sounding board for new ideas. As importantly, members served as champions of community engagement helping to set public engagement policy and bring the unit concerns and issues to the attention of the campus administration.
